Pastor Ed Decker was saved at 17 years of age during his senior year of high school in Shreveport, LA. He surrendered to preach in a New Year’s Watchnight service of 1975/1976. He began full-time ministry in late November of 1979 as an assistant pastor in Kilgore, TX.

Pastor and Melody were married on April 1st, 1980, and called to pastor the Greenhills Baptist Church of Kilgore, TX on April 6, 1980.

For over 40 years the Deckers have served the Lord together in full-time ministry. Most of those years have been starting new churches or taking struggling churches with the need to teach, train, and organize them for effective Biblical ministry. Through these years the Deckers have gained experience in Christian school ministry, music, youth camps, Bible Institute and Bible College training, military ministry, and prisons and public school ministry. Pastor Decker served on the Board of Directors of the Rock of Ages (Prison) Ministry for 17 years.

Pastor Decker has a Bachelor’s degree in Theology, and a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies through the Rock of Ages College of Biblical Studies and earned his Doctor of Pastoral Theology degree from Andersonville Theological Seminary in August of 2022. Mrs. Decker has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

Pastor and Mrs. “D” have 3 children:

Felicia: is married to Mike Ross, who is the pastor of New Life Baptist Church in Brooklyn, IN. They have 6 children.

Robert (Bobby): is married to Brandi (Alexander). He is the pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Hartselle, AL. They have 3 daughters.

Jared: married April (Smith). Jared was the pastor of Grandview Pines Baptist Church in Millbrook, AL for 12 years. He went to Heaven on December 28, 2018, from a flu-related heart attack. They have 6 children.

Pastor Decker accepted the call to pastor the Arnold Baptist Tabernacle in late August of 2023 and moved here the last week of September 2023. The Deckers are excited to be here and to see all that God is doing and will do through the people and ministry of ABT!
